Therapeutic Approach
I draw on an eclectic mix of theoretical approaches. Jungian, Psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, trauma therapies and narrative therapies all influence my practice.
Psychotherapy is a rich study and there are many different types of theorists to choose from to inform your practice. For those with some background in psychology, the theorists that I draw upon most are Jung, Bion, Winnicott, Kohut, McWilliams, Hollis, Roberts, Hillman, Mindell and Kernburg.
My former work in body therapies has also deepened my understanding of the way in which our bodies express and store psychological stress. The adage “the issues are in the tissues” is relevant. Through the lens of psychoneuroimmunology, one can gain great insight into how the body is storing pain, anxiety and stress, and in this way, we can begin to unpack why. Working with these messages from the body also forms an innate aspect of my work.
